📚 Trading School — Lesson 1

What are binary options

A simple guide for complete beginners. No complicated jargon — just practical examples.

The simple definition

A binary option is a financial bet with a binary outcome: you either win or you lose. There is no middle ground.

Before opening a trade you need to answer just one question:

📈 Will the price of this asset be higher or lower in X minutes?

If your prediction is correct, you earn a fixed percentage on your invested capital. If it is wrong, you lose only what you invested in that single trade.

The two directions: CALL and PUT

You always have exactly two choices:

📈
CALL
You predict the price will rise before expiry. Also called bullish or up.
📉
PUT
You predict the price will fall before expiry. Also called bearish or down.

It does not matter how much the price moves — it just needs to go in the right direction, even by a single pip.

Step-by-step practical example

🔍 Real scenario
1
Choose the asset: EUR/USD — the Euro/Dollar exchange rate. Current price: 1.0850
2
Choose the expiry: 5 minutes
3
Decide direction: you think the price will rise → click CALL
4
Choose your amount: invest $10 with 82% payout
5
After 5 minutes the price is at 1.0857 → it rose! You won $8.20 profit
💡 You do not need to predict how much the price will move. Only the direction.

Available expiries

Every trade has a fixed duration called the expiry. On ClearPool you can choose from:

1m
1 minute
5m
5 minutes
15m
15 minutes
More coming

For beginners we recommend starting with 5 or 15 minutes: enough time to observe the chart without the excessive pressure of the 1-minute expiry.

How the payout works

On ClearPool the payout is a fixed 82%. This means for every $10 invested:

If you win
You get back your $10 + $8.20 profit
Total: $18.20
If you lose
You lose only the $10 invested in that trade.
Nothing more.
⚖️ To be profitable long-term you need to win more than 55% of trades. With a 55% win rate you are already in profit.

What you can trade

Binary options can be placed on different types of financial assets:

  • Forex — currency pairs such as EUR/USD, GBP/USD, USD/JPY
  • Indices — S&P 500, Nasdaq, DAX, FTSE
  • Commodities — Gold, Oil, Silver
  • Cryptocurrencies — Bitcoin, Ethereum and others

Pros and cons of binary options

✓ Advantages
Simple to understand — only two choices
Limited risk — you know in advance how much you can lose
Fast trades — from 1 to 15 minutes
Fixed and transparent payout
Accessible even with small capital
✗ Watch out for
Require study and discipline
Not suited to emotional trading
The 1-minute expiry is very risky for beginners
A strategy is required — random trading does not work
Results are not guaranteed

Frequently asked questions

Do I need experience to start?
No. Binary options are among the simplest financial instruments to understand. You just need to learn how to read a basic chart and follow a simple strategy. Our Trading School guides you step by step.
What is the difference from traditional Forex?
In traditional Forex, profit depends on how much the price moves. In binary options only the direction matters: you win the same amount regardless of how far the price moved. This makes the risk more predictable.
Can I try without risking real money?
Yes! ClearPool offers a free demo mode where you can practise with virtual funds, understand how the platform works and test your strategies — without depositing anything.
What is the best expiry to start with?
For beginners we recommend 5 or 15 minutes. Short expiries like 1 minute require quick reactions and are much harder to manage psychologically.
