📚 Trading School — Lesson 2

How to read a chart

Il grafico è la finestra sul mercato. Impara a leggerlo e avrai già un vantaggio enorme sulla maggior parte dei principianti.

Why charts matter so much

When you open a trading platform the first thing you see is a chart. Many beginners feel intimidated — it looks complicated, full of bars and colours. In reality it tells a very simple story.

📊 The chart shows just one thing: the price of an asset over time. Everything else is just a different way of displaying it.

Japanese candlesticks

The most widely used chart type in trading is the Japanese candlestick chart. Each candle represents a period of time (1 minute, 5 minutes, etc.) and contains 4 key pieces of information.

CANDELA RIALZISTA High Close Open Low CANDELA RIBASSISTA High Open Close Low
Open — il prezzo all'inizio del periodo
Close — il prezzo alla fine del periodo
High — il prezzo più alto toccato
Low — il prezzo più basso toccato
🟢 Candela verde (rialzista)
La chiusura è più alta dell'apertura. Il prezzo è salito durante quel periodo.
🔴 Candela rossa (ribassista)
La chiusura è più bassa dell'apertura. Il prezzo è sceso durante quel periodo.
💡 Basic rule: green = the price rose during that period. Red = it fell. Simple.

Recognising the trend

The trend is the general direction of the market. It is the most important thing to identify before opening a trade. There are three types:

📈
Trend Bullish
Meglio aspettare.
→ Evita di operare
🏆 Beginner's golden rule: always follow the trend. Do not try to predict reversals until you have experience.

Support and Resistance

These are the key price levels where the market tends to pause or bounce. Once you learn to spot them, you will see them everywhere.

📗 Support

How do you identify them? Look at where the price stopped or reversed multiple times in the past. Those levels tend to repeat.

Timeframes: which one to use

The timeframe is the period of time represented by each candle. Choosing the right timeframe is essential.

TimeframeOgni candela = Adatto perLivello
💡 2-timeframe technique: look at the trend on M15 or H1 to understand the overall direction, then enter on M5 for precise timing.

How to analyse a chart in 4 steps

1

Apri un timeframe più alto (M15 o H1)

Identify the overall market direction. Is the price rising, falling or moving sideways?

2

Find key levels di supporto e resistenza

Find the prices where the market has already bounced in the past. These are the most important zones.

3

Passa al M5 per il timing

Wait for the price to approach a key level and watch how the candles react.

4

Apri l'operazione nella direzione del trend

If the trend is bullish and the price has touched a support → CALL. If bearish and it has touched a resistance → PUT.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to use complicated indicators?
No, at least not at first. Learn to read candles and identify trends, support and resistance first. These basic tools are already extremely powerful and many professional traders use them alone for years.
How long does it take to learn to read a chart?
With consistent practice, within 2–4 weeks you can already recognise trends and key levels. Use ClearPool's demo mode to practise every day without risking real money.
Which asset is easiest to analyse for a beginner?
EUR/USD is the most liquid and "clean" currency pair by far. Its movements are more predictable than volatile assets like cryptocurrencies. It is the ideal starting point.
What does it mean when the market is sideways?
The price moves horizontally with no clear direction — neither up nor down. For a beginner it is better to wait: trading a sideways market is much harder and riskier.
